General Information
SPSS Statistics licenses for the next year and Version 18 for Mac and Windows will be available December 2, 2009 for Departmental Use. Please note that your current software has a 30 day grace period and will not stop working on the contract's expiration date of December 3, 2009.
- SPSS Software-Departmental Use
- SPSS software is available through a site license from the MSU Computer Store. This is an annual license that expires December 3, 2009. All licenses must be renewed at this time.
- SPSS may be purchased for use on MSU owned machines and are for departments only. The license currently supports version 16 and version 17 for Windows and version 16 and 17 for Mac, however version 16 is the last version that will run on a Power PC. Version 17 for Mac must be run on Intel machines.

MSU affiliated teaching hospitals should contact SPSS directly to obtain a separate license contract. The current MSU contract is restricted to "on-campus" use. Please call (517)432-0700 and ask for software licensing to obtain more information.
SPSS license renewals are a discounted price compared to purchasing a new license. License renewals are only available until March 1, 2009. After the cut-off date you will have to buy a new license.
SPSS licenses are not returnable.
- SPSS Software-Student Use
- Students are able to purchase SPSS Grad Packs which include a license and media from the MSU Computer Store. These are four year licenses for SPSS.
Installation Information
- SPSS Software-Departmental Use
- Purchase a license for SPSS (annual renewal required). Your receipt is your proof of license.
- Activation Code-You will be provided with an instruction sheet for installing your software and activating your license at the time of purchase. Your instruction sheet will also include an Authorization Code required to unlock the SPSS modules.
- For Network Licenses, please submit a request for a Network Authorization Code to cscodes@msu.edu. Include the number of users, the platform, and the version number you would like to install.
- Purchase Media if Needed-Insert the CD and follow the on screen instructions.

- SPSS Software-Student Use
- The student software comes in a box with everything you need to install and activate the software. Insert the CD and follow the on screen instructions.
Concurrent Licensing Information
- SPSS Software-Departmental Use
- Floating/Network Licenses allow a fixed amount of users to access the software at one time. The number of simultaneous users may not exceed the number of licenses purchased. Please contact the Site License Coordinator to obtain your codes for Network licenses.
- SPSS Software-Student Use
- Concurrent licensing is not available.
Home Use Provision
- SPSS Software-Departmental Use
- Home use is only allowed under the license agreement if the software is being used for University work.
- SPSS Software-Student Use
- A home use provision is not available.
Media
- SPSS Software-Departmental Use
- Media must be purchased separately.
- SPSS Software-Student Use
- Media is provided with the license.
